Do your kids love books as much as our oldest? Our daughter could spend hours reading on her own, completely immersed in stories. So, when we arrived in Mexico, finding books for her was a priority. However, we quickly realized that locating children’s books would be a challenge in Mexico. Luckily, the San Miguel local library saved us.

When we arrived in San Miguel de Allende, we were excited to hear about a local library in the El Centro area that was said to have one of the largest children’s sections in all of Mexico. Naturally, we had to check it out!
As with much of San Miguel, the library’s exterior was quite unassuming. From the outside, Biblioteca Pública de San Miguel de Allende didn’t look like anything special. But once we walked in, we were greeted by a beautiful courtyard with a central fountain, surrounded by open rooms filled with books of all kinds. To the left, we spotted Los Niños—the children’s section—and hurried over.

This area was everything our daughter could have hoped for. Shelves full with children’s picture books in Spanish, English, and bilingual editions filled the room. She was in heaven! The library also had puzzles, toys, building blocks, and a cozy reading nook with large bean bags, making it the perfect spot for kids to relax and explore new stories.
For parents, the peaceful courtyard was a lovely place to unwind while the kids got lost in their books. It’s a great free activity where you can easily spend a few hours, keeping the kids entertained while enjoying a moment of calm.
