This may be TMI, but here’s what saved us on a 14-hour flight to India when my daughter peed her pants at the airport…

We were just about to board our flight to India. The kids were playing, laughing, and then mid giggle my daughter goes: “I have to pee!” …followed by, “I peed.”

Now, she’s basically potty trained (minus bedtime) and we had back up pull ups, but when we went to look for them….I realized they were in our checked luggage and not our carry on.

Rookie mistake? Absolutely.

And there were no parents in sight with a toddler who we could ask for a spare one…🤯

But we thought: Surely the airport has a diaper somewhere.

NOPE.
Not one diaper in the entire international terminal.
But condoms? Fully stocked. 🙃

So… we improvised.

🩲 We purchased a pack of women’s pads, stuck them in the diaper, and that girl stayed dry and comfortable for the entire 14-hour flight.

No leaks. No swamp butt. No rash. Just resourceful parenting at its finest.

So if you ever forget a diaper just know a pad in a pull-up can absolutely get you through a long-haul flight.

The rabbits are free to roam, but most cozy up in their baskets munching on hay. You can sit at a regular table or drop to the floor for a more relaxed experience.

The vibe? Warm, playful, and incredibly cozy.

☕ They serve coffee and food and the design is adorable. The setting is super intimate and perfect for kids or animal lovers visiting Penang.

We used to land at 6am after long-haul flights and

We used to land at 6am after long-haul flights and try to “make the most of the day.”

🚶‍♀️ Roam the city till 3pm check-in
☕ Survive on caffeine
😩 Be miserable while nothing’s even open yet

But then, in Peru when this was pre-kids, we stumbled into an affordable hostel that gave us a room at a reduced rate.
We set a 4-hour alarm, slept, and felt human again.

Years later, after a 32-hour travel day to Vietnam, we tried it with our kids.

🛏️ Found a hostel with a family room all on the fly
⏰ Booked it for just a few hours
😴 All of us slept
📦 By 1pm, our Airbnb was ready and we checked in not exhausted

We still explored.
We still adjusted to the time zone.
And everyone went to bed on time that night.

Search for hostels or hotels near where you are staying that offer day rooms or flexible check-in.

Many will give you 2–6 hours at a reduced rate and that rest can change everything.

You don’t have to “tough it out.”
You’re allowed to land and lie down.
It won’t ruin your trip. It might actually save it.

And no, they’re not in a pasture. They’re walking the streets.

Resting in traffic. Strolling through alleys. Blocking doorways.

They’re part of daily life and you will absolutely run into them. Constantly.

In India cows are sacred.
🙏 People pray to them.
🌾 They feed them on the street.
💉 Most are vaccinated and tagged that we ran into.
🗑️ And yes, they eat everything including trash and flower offerings.

It was one of the first cultural moments that caught us totally off guard and quickly became something we loved spotting in every neighborhood.

Just because you booked your flights together doesn’t mean you’ll sit together.

Yep, even with a toddler. 😳

Airlines (especially budget ones) often split up families on purpose to push paid seat selection.

It’s not a glitch, it’s a revenue strategy.

Here’s how to make sure your family actually stays together:

✅ Book early for the best seat options
✅ Pay to select seats if it matters (sometimes it’s the only way)
✅ Choose airlines with family-friendly policies (like Southwest or JetBlue)
✅ Call customer service after booking and ask
✅ Arrive early + ask at the gate—they can still move people around!

Pro tip: Toddlers on hips get better results than angry tweets. 😉

Ever get off a long flight and feel like your legs

Ever get off a long flight and feel like your legs are heavy, sore, or even a little swollen?

✈️ First be sure to save this so your legs don’t pay the price!

It’s not just because you were cramped in economy for 14 hours...your circulation takes a hit when you’re sitting still for long stretches, especially at altitude.

And in some cases, it’s more than just discomfort… It can be a real health risk.

Here’s what’s actually going on:
When you’re seated for too long (hello, long-haul flights), blood flow slows down in your legs.

Combine that with dehydration, and you’ve got a recipe for DVT aka blood clots that usually form in your lower legs. They’re rare but serious.

So what can you do about it?

Hydrate like it’s your job. Water thins the blood and helps circulation. Bring your own bottle and refill before boarding.

Walk the aisle. Every 1–2 hours, get up, stretch, and walk for a minute. Yes, even with kids.

Wear compression socks. These are gold. They help squeeze blood back up from your calves to your heart.

Flex your feet often. While seated, pump your ankles, point and flex your toes, and do small calf raises from your seat.

If you’ve got little kids with you? You’re in luck because they’ll make you stand up, stretch, squat, and chase them up and down the aisle. Accidental prevention.
