How Much Does An Udaipur Trip Cost?

Planning a trip to the City of Lakes? Udaipur, India, is known for its stunning palaces, vibrant markets, and scenic lakes—but it doesn’t have to come with a high price tag. In this post, we’ll break down everything you need to know much an Udaipur trip cost, from affordable accommodations to local eats and family-friendly activities that won’t stretch your wallet. Udaipur can be both magical and manageable on a budget.
In total, we spent $962.91 for 2 weeks for a total of $68.78 per day for our family of 4. Let’s see how that is broken down. All amounts shown are in US dollars. Recommend checking out our blog post on how we use ATMs and utilize credit cards while traveling.
Accommodation—$614.26 or $43.88 per night.
The vacation rental location we stayed at in Udaipur was within walking distance to the both of the lakes. We were outside the main tourist area of Lake Pichola where most of the attractions were. It was a manageable 20 minute walk to the main area. We were also 15 minutes away from Fateh Sagar Lake. It was in a more residential area that was much more quiet than on the major road. Our accommodation had 2 bedrooms, a full kitchen and a washer.
Eating Out – $128.50 or $2.90 per person per meal
As a family, we ate out more in Udaipur than in other locations. There was great access to roof top restaurants with lake views that was unique to the “City of Lakes.” This we wanted to take advantage of. Plus, we continued to have difficulties finding foods in India that the kids would eat. We also used the App Swiggy, which is like Uber Eats or Door Dash back in the US, but way cheaper and more efficient. Click on this link for our downloadable Google Maps Guide for Udiapur.
- Cafe Grasswood – This was a safe food for the kids for breakfast, muesli yogurt and pancakes. We went here twice. – $26.59.
- Schezuan Express – They had chicken wings that did not have a lot of spices for the kids to eat. Ate here twice as well.- $29.02.
- Smacky House of Fries – Oh we needed some comfort food. We welcomed the sight of this French Fries spot. Got this on 2 different occasions.- $6.46.
- Shawarma- Had Shawarma which was very spicy. –$9.38
- Saga- Rooftop Indian restaurant with beautiful views –$11.75
- Jaadoo Pizza Project- Fantastic Italian style thin crust pizza. –$12.69
- Natural View Restaurant- Rooftop restaurant with views of Lake Pichola. –$17.32
- Swiggy- Ordered from Swiggy app on last night in Udaipur. –$15.29
Groceries – $101.58
As we only stayed 2 weeks, we didn’t stock up too much. There was a local produce market we got our fruits and veggies from and went to 2 different “supermarkets.” We spent about $1.22 per meal for our family of 4 including all the snacks for everyone throughout the day. Here’s how that broke down:
- Nexus Mall Hypermarket—$35.52
- Raliant Smart Hypermarket—$26.64
- Local Market- Bought small everyday goods and produce—$39.42
Transportation – $46.47
I have specifically omitted our flight cost for the sake that readers will have to get to Udaipur, India from many different places in the world, and all flights and other means of transportation will be different. We did use Daily Drop Pro to help us search for redemption bookings from points we have earned from our favorite credit card! We relied mostly on bargaining the many tuk-tuks that are driving all over Udaipur. Just flag down an empty one and stand firm on your price. If they don’t accept your price, just wait for another one. The supply of tuk-tuks are high.
- Uber from Udaipur Airport to our accommodation- This was one of the only times Uber worked for us in Udaipur. Otherwise it was too much of a hassle due to scaming. $10.38
- Uber: Tried Uber a few times before giving up on it in while in Udaipur- $9.88
- Tuk-Tuks— We mostly walked, but if the location we wanted was out of walking distance with the kids, or if we were tired after a full day, we took tuk-tuks. The biggest single cost of Tuk-Tuks was getting us out to Bahubali Hill and negotiating the driver to stay and take us back to town. —$26.21
Tourist Attractions – $72.10
We did a lot and saw a lot with our kids while in Udaipur. Most experiences were very low cost.
- Jagdish Temple – A stunning 17th-century Hindu temple in the heart of Udaipur, known for its intricate carvings, steep marble steps, and vibrant spiritual atmosphere. While the temple was free, we provided a small donation. $1.15
- Rajiv Gandhi Garden- Rajiv Gandhi Garden is a well-maintained public park in Udaipur featuring lush green lawns, a large children’s play area, and a peaceful lakefront walkway with views of Fateh Sagar Lake.- $0.35
- City Palace- The City Palace in Udaipur is a majestic complex of palaces overlooking Lake Pichola, renowned for its blend of Rajasthani and Mughal architecture, ornate courtyards, and panoramic city views. Cost 400 rupees per adult, our kids were free. –$9.21
- Gulab Bagh Park Train- A small train ride encircling the park, kids loved it! –$4.50
- Dharohar Folk Dance- Check out this post for more information. $9.42
- Maharana Pratap Smarak- Memorial Park that was a perfect for outside play with large garden and grassy area for kids to play. Peaceful, got away from the crowds. $3.22
- Bahubali Hill Entrance fee- Not sure why, but there is an enterance fee for the hike. –$0.23
- Ropeway- Great views of Fateh Sagar Lake with a Hindu temple at the top. –$6.35
- Sanju Arts- Our kids took a miniature art class with renown artist Sanju at his studio. –$13.86
- Cooking Class- Kids and adults were hands on with cooking traditional Indian cuisine. -$23.81
Miscellaneous – $0.00
Healthcare- $0.00
- It was not time for the monthly renewal for our SafetyWing Nomad Insurance.
Total: $962.91
What We learned
- Transportation: Just take a Tuk-Tuk around. The supply is extremely high so you will alway find one at a price you are willing to pay. Be firm with the drivers and move on to the next one if they will not take your offer.
- Food: There are great rooftop views that also offer palatable foods that picky kids will eat.
- Accommodations: This vacation rental had everything that we needed. It was a little walk to the attractions but we were in a quite area of town with a produce store around the corner.
